St Kevin’s House System
28th Jan 2015
We have now established a House System in school as a way of recognising, promoting and rewarding positive behaviour. Each child will belong to one of the four particular houses and will be able to gain points for their house. Initially, points were awarded for attendance and for wearing indoor shoes. However children are now able to gain points in other areas of school life as every teacher has 10 house shields to award each week and Miss Keegan and Mr McComb have special (green) shields that are worth 10 points!
The House names are connected to St. Kevin, the patron Saint of our school.
Glendalough House – Blue (The place where St. Kevin lived as a hermit)
Kilnamanagh House – Red (The Monastery where he trained)
Lon Dubh House – Green (Relating to the story of St. Kevin and the blackbird - Blackbird in Gaelic)
Uisce Caoimhin – Yellow (This is Gaelic for Kevin’s water, relating to the lakes at Glendalough)
Each month the house with the most points will be awarded ‘House of the Month’ and the children in the winning house will receive a treat! The children can also be working towards winning ‘House of the Term’ and ‘House of the Year’.
Please encourage your child to try their best to win points for their house.
Our house system is sponsored by Roy Compton, our school Photographer.
